Southern Cassowary

Southern Cassowary Casuarius casuarius is a Vulnerable species found mostly in New Guinea but reached some places in NE Queesland. Difficult to see, but with lucky and effort it is possible to see this spectacular species. 
Very early in the morning, some of them can be seen in the outskirts of Mission Beach.
It likes stay out of the forest, but only a few time, searching for killed frogs on the road and other small vertebrates. Theses pictures were taken in october 2007 in Mission Beach, Queensland.
